The Screaming Xenu

Post  Sparkles on Tue May 22, 2012 6:30 am

The bar seemed decent enough on the outside, a cheap little place that your average seeker might call their 'home from home', countless other places like this existed all over Xenos, some more classy than others.
The white walled exterior had dark wooden supports contrasting throughout the exposed front, lights glowed faintly in the cloudy and minuscule windows. A single sign hung above the door, no image, just 'The Screaming Xenu' painted on a faded piece of wood, hung from a single chain.
The door gave way to a rather 'dusty' atmosphere, the few patrons seemed to be lifetime regulars and the age of the building showed in the floorboards and support beams; the tables were sturdy, most seemed rather new, as were most of the chairs, probably the only things that had changed in the past few generations of ownership. A single figure served behind the bar.

The barkeep was stocky, even for a dwarf, boxes lined up and hidden behind the counter for him to walk along as he served. The dwarf's red hair was wild and his beard long, in two braids that ran almost the full length of his figure; in one hand was a slightly blood-smeared hammer, his reminder to some of the drunken regulars that he didn't take kindly to violence, a slight twitch in his left eye drew attention to his eyes - pupils so wide you couldn't tell the colour. His clothes look like a cut-down arming jacket held together with a belt and sash.

Before you have any more time to observe his features, a grizzly voice echoes from the back of his throat.

"Whaddaya want?"

Despite how his voice sounded, he was actually quite polite, if blunt with his words. He had already began pouring pints as he spoke, sending a few off to patrons along the counter from him.

<you may choose (with player consent) whether or not you enter the bar as a party, there are plenty of 'empty' tables for you to use in RP>

A MacCorkindale if you will, big as you like, and a *ahem* wine, for the Lady.

Emrys walks up to the bar, orders a mug of mead, heads over to a table near the corner, leaning his staff against the wall, and settles down with a book he pulled out from the pocket of his coat.

"Aye, lad! Keep the potent stuff for the lady, eh?"

Ducking behind the counter for a while, clinking glass bottles and the occasional crash gave way to a triumphant hand that raised up with an old-looking, yet still unopened bottle of wine. The barkeep had developed a grey dusting over the edges of his wild mane of hair, proceeding to pour two brews from one of the caskets in the wall behind him.

"Seeker's Expenses, aye?"

He enquired, winking at the young lass or warrior before him, from his height behind, and behind the drinks, it was hard to tell which.

"Either way, pass this one down to the quiet lad o'er there, aye?" He gestured awkwardly over the tankard to a figure who had swept through and sat in a corner.

"A pint of rum, and be quick about it! I've just got back from a particularly grievous Seeker's assignment and I need to drink away the bad memories." Captain Seamus pulls up a stool and looks across the tavern at the noticeboard hung on one wall. "I'm surprised they haven't got more of my colleagues up on that thing, especially after that catastrophe in Prospero..." The barkeep hands him a tankard filled with sailor's ambrosia. The captain tilts back his head and takes a long swig, emptying half the pint in one go. Slamming the tankard back onto the bar, he already looks happier with the fire of alcohol starting in his belly. "Then again, not many of the nobles made it out alive..." He looks over at Johann and Lydia sitting further down the bar, the image of a happy Amranian couple.

Johann takes the drinks "Cheers." He walks toward the young Man with the staff and places a tankard down firmly on his table, before seating himself at a nearby table. He calls to his counterpart. "Lydia?"

Cecil Osthorpe walks calmly into the bar.
"One small glass of Lanetian wine please"
Osthorpe travels over to the nearest small table, and with a rustling of papers and clinking of bottles, brings out a blank notebook and a bottle of ink. Fixing his lenses over his magnifying goggles, he pulls out a long, feather quill, dips it into the ink, and begins feverishly scribbling notes in a spidery, confusing handwriting, annotated with tiny images and diagrams, as he waits for his wine.

Johann stifles a chuckle, then leans nearer to the scribbling Gevellian. "So, Osthorpe, how goes the work?"

He then turns his head and gives the Captain a nod.

"Ah, thank you my good man, this is just the thing I need. Intensive research is surprisingly taxing, at least, for someone with little physical experience, such as myself."

He takes a gulp of the drink, setting back on the table, as he pulls a quill from his coat and making notes on the pages of his book.

"I'm Emrys by the way," he says as he looks up from his book again, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

The Dwarf muttered to himself as he pulled out his second bottle of wine for the day, not bothering to read the label as he popped the cork and filled a 'small' glass near the rim, easily 5 flutes of wine in one of the posher establishments. Under 'seekers allowances', his servings became suddenly more generous, beyond his already large servings. Pushing the glass to the edge of the counter, he didn't bother to wait for the curious male to take it, entering a door to the side for a while, heat radiating from the brief gap in the door.

Johann nods cheerfully. "Aye, good to meet you too. I am Johann Draugr, knight of Amrania, and fellow Seeker. By the looks of things, you would be a Mage? And a student at that from those papers...?"

Cecil flips over the notebook and pushes it towards Johann. On it is a sketched, rough portrait of the Crown Princess of Amrania.
"It's an article on the political situation of Amrania in the wake of the events in Prospero Valley... Hang on, were you not present. I believe I heard that you had recieved your esteemed knighthood from the Princess herself. Is this true?"

O'Malley notices Sir Draugr give him a nod from where he's sat with the studying mage and scribbling reporter, both deep in layers of parchment. The captain gives a faint nod back and returns to his now empty tankard. He swiftly orders another and quickly downs that as well. By now his head has begun to spin slightly, like it did when he first set foot upon a ship many years ago. Seamus misses this happy feeling, so promptly orders yet another mug. Maybe he'll practise his work in the forge tomorrow, like Awyren keeps suggesting, or maybe he'll learn to steady his aim some more in the training yard. Not that he's likely to be awake for tomorrow, judging by the amount he's drinking... He decides it might be best to saunter off back to his guildhouse apartment, perhaps with a serving wench or two, and grab some sleep. Maybe, but after another drink...

Cecil pours a stream of glass shards into the gutter outside the tavern and steps back inside, sitting back down at his table, where he promptly sets out another bottle of ink. As he rummages for it inside his pouch, his index finger runs across the sharpened blade of the throwing knife he keeps concealed in the bottom, opening a small cut on the tip. He pulls his hand out sharply, sucking at the wound.
"Barkeep. Barkeep! I require some bandage", he shouts towards the door through which the dwarf disappeared.

Turning around here, surveying the bar, until she eyes land onto a familiar face. "Captain! It's good to see you again", and she smiles in his direction. She stands up with her wine, and saunter over towards him, sitting next to you then. "Would you like another drink, Seamus, your tankard is almost empty, and you must drown away your sorrows, after all. Oh, and the drinks are on me" She winks to him as she says that then.

Walking through the door with a cheery green bird perched on his shoulder, An equally green-clad elf moved to take a swig from a pewter flask before sitting down in one of the less occupied corners, ordering no drink and paying no mind to those in the bar, he muttered in a strange tongue as he unravelled some parchment and began studying it intently.

One by one, small bottles of powder and liquid came out. A wave of his hand sent his green companion skipping awkwardly onto the desk to take up a more restful position as the elf worked. The small corner table was almost covered in different items by the time he made to move the bird, so nesting was a little awkward for the creature.

"Barkeep! Barkeep!"

Emerging from his room to the sounds of screaming and complaint, the barkeep took no time in gathering his hammer and sternly looking at the troublemaking group, when he got to the bottom of things, he sighed and became noticeably more relaxed than he was just seconds ago.

"Quit yer' yappin' and shut it, s' a scratch, aye?" the barkeep threw over a dirty rag, the only real cloth behind the bar, despite all of the quite neatly-kept glasswork and other various containers he had to pour drink into for the patrons

Seamus sees Lydia approach him and sit at the bar by his side. She appears to say something, but everything seems to have gone pleasantly fuzzy. The captain decides now would be a good time to leave, so he finishes his current drink, slams his gloved left hand on the bar for support and makes to stand up.

However, instead of going upwards, Seamus hears a sickening crack as the bartop splinters beneath his palm, sending him towards the ground. He briefly catches a glimpse some of the patrons gazing in shock, and a split second later the world goes black.

The damaged counter was repaired almost as soon as the barkeep cleared the pirate of the front, one of the local patrons seemed to be responsible as the earth itself seemed to be repairing the damage done. The barkeep laid his pirate patron on the nearest chair and just returned to his business, grumbling about trouble.

Hearing the clattering sound, Johann turns to see the sailor on the floor.
"..Not again.."
He gets up out of his seat and strides over to the unconscious Captain, then grabs him under the arm and hoists him up to his feet. Realising he is not going to wake up any time soon, Johann throws him over his back and begins to carry him out of the tavern, but not before grabbing his remaining mead and necking it with his free hand.
"See you tomorrow, I suppose?" He says to the remaining concious people in the room, before looking to Lydia. "This one needs a bed it seems." He leaves the building.
